Overview: Carrar

The automobile industry is rapidly moving towards the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) but battery lifetime, safety and charging time are major obstacles. Batteries have specific temperature range of operation. Outside the range the batteries could suffer significant performance and lifetime degradation; therefore, a modern, tech-driven thermal management system is required. The traditional water-based cooling systems are outdated and not capable to support the battery thermal requirements.

Carrar’s patented thermal management technology is an innovative two-phase solution that combines immersion and direct-touch methods to optimize battery cells and normalize the temperature at any ambient and car mode of use. The thermal management approach provides a single system for the entire vehicle, including its battery, inverter, motors, powertrain, etc. Additionally, the new technology provides safety, which is often a notable concern in the EV market. It enhances battery life and prevents thermal overload and fire hazards.

Carrar’s mission is to enable safe, pervasive, and greener electric vehicles by mastering the two-phase thermal phenomena, providing mature and cost-effective thermal management solutions enables few minutes charging time, longer driving range, extending batteries lifetime, increasing car safety, and improving sustainability of batteries manufacturing.

Growing EV Adoption & Profits with Better Thermal Management

Four significant obstacles hinder the worldwide deployment of electric vehicles: a long charging time; short battery lifetime; the high total cost of owning an EV; and safety – situations of thermal runaways and fires that are hard to contain and extinguish.

All those problems stem from the current limitations of electric vehicle batteries or the inability to control their temperature effectively.

Current thermal management systems (TMS) cannot keep the temperature of EV batteries consistently at the required range (normally 10⁰C above or below 25⁰).

As a result, the battery degrades over time, resulting in sub-optimal function and a shorter lifetime.

Carrar is a novel thermal management solution based on a patented immersion two-phase technology, which provides a complete thermal management solution for electric vehicle components, including batteries, the powertrain, and in-vehicle computing components.

Innovative Thermal Management Technology

Carrar leverages the physical phenomenon of Latent heat when a liquid turns into a gas (similar to air conditioners). As a result, Carrar uniquely achieves boiling incipience superheat using very little energy and within a low-pressure system (of <2 bar) and holds several patents for this technology.

Carrar offers a superb temperature control system that dissipates heat more than twice as fast as current best in class solutions; the system is simpler (with fewer components) and weighs less.

Carrar adjusts heat dissipation (i.e., the boiling level) dynamically, assuring a constant battery temperature regardless of ultrafast charging and ambient temperature (climate).

In addition, Carrar keeps temperatures stable at the cell level – and within the cell (the temperature at the core equals the circumference). By keeping cell temperature stable, Carrar significantly lowers the chance of thermal runaway and propagation – the most significant safety concerns of electric vehicles.

Carrar works with variety of engineered liquids that support environmental and sustainability regulations and supports every form of battery and electric vehicle.
